    Drumstruck: Celebrating Africa’s Musical Heritage

For over 20 years, Warren Lieberman has journeyed across Southern Africa, uncovering rare musical instruments and collecting the rhythms that tell the continent’s oldest stories. What started as a personal passion has grown into a mission: to preserve and celebrate Africa’s musical heritage for future generations.

Drumstruck at Silvermist brings that mission to life — a unique fusion of African music, theatre, wine, food, and storytelling set on Silvermist Organic Wine Estate in Constantia. This season, Drumstruck has cemented itself as one of Cape Town’s must-visit cultural experiences, welcoming audiences of all ages into the vibrant heartbeat of South Africa.

    Drumstruck - Cape Town

Here are seven reasons why Drumstruck at Silvermist belongs on every Cape Town bucket list:

    1. A Unique Blend of Wine, Food, Music, and Culture

No other experience offers organic South African wines, a traditional braai, immersive theatre, and hands-on drumming and marimba all in one. Drumstruck perfectly captures the rhythm, flavours, and warmth of South Africa in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable.

    2. Be Part of the Performance

Guests don’t just watch — they play. Every attendee receives a drum and joins the performance, guided by artists who have performed on Broadway, at the Beijing Olympics, and alongside Shakira, Dolly Parton, and Will.I.Am. Drumstruck is the world’s first interactive African drum-theatre show.

    3. A Living Museum of African Music

The theatre houses South Africa’s finest collection of traditional instruments, many played live, including Ngoma Lungunda (God Drum), Royal Ghana Drums, Uhadi bows, Kudu horns, Pedi pipes, Venda nanga, log drums, historic mbiras, and more. This collection is the culmination of Lieberman’s decades-long dedication to preserving Africa’s musical heritage.

    4. An Authentic Journey Through African Traditions

Guests discover how stick-fighting, log-drumming, and mielie-pounding evolved into marimba and akadinda. They experience Bushman trance harmonies, Tswana and Zulu dance rhythms, and even learn a traditional Xhosa wedding song. Drumstruck continues to research and share African traditions through publications, an African music orchestra, and live performances.

    5. A Braai That Embodies South African Spirit

The meal is a celebration in itself: flame-grilled chops, chicken, boerewors, pap, chakalaka, fresh salads, garlic bread, and dessert — all served with sweeping views of the Twelve Apostles. Vegetarian and halaal options are available, making it a warm, communal experience that mirrors the way South Africans celebrate together.

    6. Stunning Surroundings on an Organic Wine Estate

Silvermist Organic Wine Estate offers panoramic views of the Constantia valley, award-winning wines, open lawns, and farm animals, making Drumstruck perfect for families, couples, and groups. Children drum, explore, and fully immerse themselves in the experience.

    7. A Lasting Impression, Not Just a Memory

Visitors leave describing Drumstruck as “life-changing,” “the highlight of our trip,” and “the most joyful experience in Cape Town.” The heart of the show is simple: Drumstruck makes you fall in love with South Africa.
