Facebook turned 10 today. It’s hard to believe that this social networking site has been around since the 4th of February 2004. It feels like only yesterday that I started using Facebook. Like many of you reading this I’ve posted and liked thousands of status updates, photos and Facebook page updates since 2007.
I’ve found hundreds of people that went to school with me, networked with people that work in the same industries as me and made hundreds of new friends thanks to Facebook. The social network site has become a part of my daily routine (at work, at home and when I’m on the move). Facebook is my fourth most popular way of communicating and networking (behind talking, tweeting and Whatsapp-ing).
I know that many of you reading this might not go onto Facebook that much, but you can’t deny that it has become an integral part of global society and has made the world smaller. It’s the still the third largest country in the world (with more than 1.2 billion users) and you can’t really ignore it.
I know there are privacy issues, I know there are people saying that Facebook knows too much about you and I know that some of you might get fed up with abundance of photos of babies, stupid people posting status updates, couples who have their fights and various other irritating activities, but I still love it. It’s a perfect snapshot of what’s going in your world in the 21st Century.
Some tech analysts and geeks are saying that Facebook has reached it’s peak and that usage of this popular social network site will decline before 2017, but I think they are wrong. Facebook is probably here to stay for the next 10 years if you ask me.
Time to enjoy a trip down memory lane. Here’s a recap of the first 10 years of Facebook posted by CNBC on YouTube.
