Doctor Strange is an upcoming superhero film produced by Marvel Studios. It’s intended to be the fourteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU) and is scheduled for release in October / November 2016. The film is based on the comic book character of the same name (which first made an appearance in 1963).
There was a 1978 film adaptation, but this promises to be a lot better. The film is directed by Scott Derrickson (who also directed Hellraiser: Inferno and The Exorcism of Emily Rose) and the screenplay was written by Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill. The film began principal photography in November 2015 in Nepal before moving to the UK and concluded in New York City earlier this month.
Doctor Strange will feature performances by Benedict Cumberbatch (who you might know from his brilliant performance in television’s Sherlock), Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams (who has appeared in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock films and various other movies), Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton.
Here’s the film’s premise: After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant and conceited surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.
The Doctor Strange trailer had its worldwide premier on Jimmy Kimmel last night, check it out below:
I know I say this about a lot of movies, but I think this has potential. Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect choice for the role and if he’s going to be as good as he was in 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness then it’s going to be a kick-ass film.
