There’s no doubt in my mind that 2015 is going to be Francois Van Coke’s year. He’s taking a new path with his self-titled debut solo album and doing things his way. If you’ve been to any Fokofpolisiekar or Van Coke Kartel shows over the years, you’ll know that he has screamed enough.
Now he’s laying himself open on probably one of the most exciting releases of 2015. Francois has teamed-up with old and new friends on this album: Jedd Kossew (Van Coke Kartel), Karen Zoid, Laudo Liebenberg (aKING), Hunter Kennedy (Die Heuwels Fantasties & Fokofpolisiekar) and Arno Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls).
The album is out NOW and available on iTunes and in all good music shops.
You will also be able to buy the album at one of the upcoming shows of his tour (which kicks off this week):
Tonight (the 8th of April) he’s at Sgt Pepper in Cape Town. At 5:45 PM Tomorrow and 5:45 PM on Friday (the 10th and 11th of April) Francois and his band will be at the Rembrandt Hall in Oudsthoorn, performing at the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees. He’s also playing a show a Brian’s Grill in Oudsthoorn on the 11th of April.
On the 14th of April Frannie is at Aandklas Stellenbosch, on the 15th & 16th of April at Mystic Boer in Bloemfontein, on the 17th of April at Rumours in Weltevreden Park (in Johannesburg), on the 18th of April at Arcade Empire in Pretoria and on the 19th of April he’s at Atterbury Theatre (also in Pretoria).
Make sure that you catch one of these shows. You will not be disappointed, I’m sure.
Besides the album release, Francois Van Coke has also released the first music video and second single off the album. He performs the song, “Toe Vind Ek Jou” with legendary South African singer-songwriter Karen Zoid. Check out the video below.
Isn’t “Toe Vind Ek Jou” one of the most beautiful Afrikaans ballads of 2015? It’s no wonder that the song has reached the number one spot on the SA iTunes chart today.
Francois and Karen became best friends quickly and easily in the past year. She inspired him to make himself vulnerable with this song. The viewer feels it, hears it and sees it – one simply can not ignore the perfect harmony. The video was directed by Quinton Lavery.
I’m really looking forward to hearing all the songs on the album. I have a feeling that I won’t be disappointed.
