The first Friday Loud tune of 2014 is by a Scottish rock band who released one of the best albums of 2013, Biffy Clyro. They have been making waves in the UK and international music industry ever since they were formed in 1995 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire. To date the band have released 5 studio albums and one live album.
The current members of Biffy Clyro are Simon Neil and twin brothers James Johnston and Ben Johnston. Former members of the band include Josh Lowe and Lewis Ingram. Based on their album and single certifications, Biffy Clyro have sold more than 1.2 million albums and 400,000 singles in the UK alone. Their 2009 album, Only Revolutions, reached the number 3 spot on the UK album chart and their 2013 album, Opposites, reached the number 1 spot in the UK album chart.
Biffy Clyro headlined the Leeds & Reading festivals in the UK in 2013 and have played at almost every major festival in Europe. In mid to late 2013 it was announced that they would be touring South Africa in March 2014 and headlining RAMFest Johannesburg and Cape Town. I was also extremely stoked last year when I found out that Biffy Clyro had answered my question on their Facebook page (thanks to huge support from the folks at RAMFest and fans of awesome music in South Africa).
The tune that I selected for today, might not be that loud, but it’s pretty damn awesome. “Black Chandelier” has a real kick to it and is one of the best written songs that I’ve heard in the past 5 years. It’s probably my favorite song from 2013 too. I can’t wait to sing along to every single word of this tune when I’m photographing them next year at RAMFest. Just have a listen to it below, I’m pretty sure that Biffy Clyro will kickstart your weekend.
See, I told you that it was awesome! If you haven’t bought your RAMFest tickets yet, make sure that you do it NOW!
