Horror fans brace yourselves, The Strain premiered on FX in the USA last week and promises to be one of the most exciting TV series of 2014. If you’re a fan of American Horror Story, Supernatural, Penny Dreadful or The Walking Dead, this might be your cup of tea.
The series starts as a Boeing 777 lands at John F. Kennedy International Airport (in New York City). The plane’s lights are off and its doors are sealed. Epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather and his team are sent to investigate this odd occurrence. On board they find two hundred corpses and four survivors. The situation deteriorates when the bodies begin disappearing from morgues. Goodweather and a small group of helpers find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the entire city, from an ancient threat to humanity.
If reading the previous paragraph doesn’t intrigue you, there must be something wrong with you, and yes this is another vampire show (in case you were wondering). The Strain has “Binge Watch” written all over it if you ask me. The series was created by Guillermo del Toro (who also brought us films like the Hellboy franchise, Mimic and Pan’s Labyrinth) and Chuck Hogan. It’s based on their novel trilogy of the same name. The Strain features appearances by Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mía Maestro, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Sean Astin, Jack Kesy, Natalie Brown, Miguel Gomez and Ben Hyland.
