Gurgling toilets make the life of people difficult and you may not even be aware of the reasons. Many people call the plumber when this happens.
Why is your toilet gurgling?
A gurgling toilet is an indication of the pipes calling for help because any rumbling and weird sound after flushing or just a random occurrence signifies a problem lurking in the home’s plumbing system.
Just by hearing the sound though it might be difficult to determine whether this is a simple problem or something serious requiring major work. When the sound starts, know that it is indicating a problem for sure and it requires immediate attention.
Possible reasons for a gurgling toilet
Often the blockage of a line leads to such issues because clogs generate negative pressure of air. Now, the air does not flow through the plumbing lines as it should but instead pushes back to generate such strange sounds.
There may be water bubble present in the toilet too and this may be due to the following reasons.
1. Clogging of the drain line or toilet
2. Blockage of the vent stack
3. Sewer or mainline problem
To resolve issues with the blocked drain, you need the services of an experienced plumber.
Clogging leads to a gurgling toilet
A clogged toilet will push back the air instead of letting it flow and this causes the gurgling. This might be the reason when you do not notice such problems at any other place in the home.
Fixing this is easy so just give the toilet 10-15 plunges using the plunger. This action dislodges any clogs present near the surface. When this does not work, use an auger or snake but when nothing seems to work, calling the plumber is the best idea.
Avoid flushing certain things
People can prevent clogs but flushing only those things down the toilet that disintegrate immediately.
This does not include:
1. Tissues
2. Paper towels
3. Cigarette butts
4. Feminine products
5. Flushable wipes
Such things may not return up after flushing but cause problems later by clogging the plumbing lines.
Blockage of the vent stack
The vent stack refers to vertical pipes going up to the roof and this controls the air pressure of plumbing system. It also gives off the exhaust gas so it is in the form of a permanent open channel.
A blocked vent stack generates negative pressure and there may be slow draining or gassy, smelly sewer odour. Animal nests and leaves mainly cause such problems along with a small carcass or rodent.
The only way to resolve the problem is by clearing it out and you can do it yourself in some cases. For this, get on the roof and take a look. When the clog or nest is near at the vent top remove this to resolve the problem.
Drain line or mainline clogs
You cannot fix a waterline problem so you should call an emergency plumber for blocked drains quickly. Other drains might be backing up too such as in the shower after flushing so only a professional can help you in such a situation.
