I’ve been a Twitter user for about 2 years now. One person that has been on my timeline from the beginning is Arne Dunckers. She’s a digital marketer and social media fanatic. She’s gone from working mostly with affiliate marketing and e-commerce to now working with SEO and Online PR.
There is nothing more marvellous than being paid for doing what you love. Arne Dunckers loves writing a lot. She tries to write regularly on her blog. Arne Dunckers is originally from Pretoria, but she now calls Cape Town home and wouldn’t want it any other way.
The Mother City and her are in a deep, meaningful, sometimes “slightly” tipsy, but generally awesome relationship. Arne Dunckers is a self proclaimed wine and tequila connoisseur and in an ongoing mission to find the best road-trip destination and the perfect bar. She’s definitely dedicated to the pursuit of awesomeness.
I had a chat to Arne Dunckers about a few things. Here’s what she had to say
Would you call yourself a Twitter addict?
Addict is such a strong word, but yes. It’s the first thing I check in the morning and the last thing I do before hitting the sack. Whilst waiting for my first drink at a restaurant I’ll be voicing my opinion about by my current location or just catching up on some local wit. Instead of checking the news for major events I depend on Twitter to give me info and opinion. I can’t remember what I did in waiting rooms, standing in line and traffic before my introduction to terrific Twitter.
What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to Arne Dunckers on Twitter?
Funny and slightly embarrassing, I had a little Twitter mishap in the beginning of 2011. I was flying to my home town, Pretoria, and as usual when travelling alone I had one eye glued to my phone screen and the other on any potential eye candy. Much to my surprise the flight had an array of hotness boarding, including Danny K and his girlfriend. Sitting in good eye view of the local celebrities and couldn’t help but tweet about his behaviour and (in my opinion) what a scene he was making. The girlfriend immediately saw my tweet and started searching the plane. I managed to change seats seconds before, just to get more leg room and remained unfound. That’s until I was waiting for my baggage, once again embraced in Twitter updates, and was then greeted by Danny K and giggling girlfriend. And of course, our luggage had to be last. Thanks Kulula.
Who are your favourite people to interact with on Twitter?
People who interact back. I keep wanting to remind some people on Twitter that it is called social networking and it is not Google. In order to take a little, you need to give a little. Also, those tweople who make me giggle or LOL with every update. Social media should be fun, informative and bring people together who would previously not be able to make contact. I’ll interact keenly if the incentive is a recommendation, information or a laugh.
Would you say that Social Media has changed your life?
Most definitely. Boredom and curiosity brought me to Twitter, and that’s where the love started. Social media has offered me new job opportunities and possibilities. In fact, if it weren’t for social media I would have never discovered my passion and flair for digital marketing.
Having moved from Pretoria to Cape Town I needed to make new friends and contacts, Twitter was my solution without even realizing it. Easing into Cape Town has been a breeze thanks to social networking. Social media has changed my professional life, friendships & social life (and occasionally my love life).
What is Arne Dunckers currently working on?
I’m currently and constantly working on expanding my knowledge of digital marketing. A friend once said that digital marketing is a lifestyle not just a job, and I agree. My passion is my job is my life. In true geekiness I also spend my free time improving my web design skills and working on my attempt to write a bundle of short stories. Apart from that I take time to help friends, family and clients to achieve the desired online presence through all possible methods and platforms. Saving the world by one for one converting the unsavvy internet public to geekdom.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Arne Dunckers for the interview. I wish her luck with all her future missions and campaigns. You can follow her on Twitter via @TheArneD.
