An Interview with American Post-Hardcore Band Secrets

Secrets are an American Post-Hardcore / Rock band from San Diego, California. They’ve been around since 2010 and have released 3 studio albums to date. The band’s members are Richard Rogers (guitarist / vocalist), Wade Walters (vocalist), Michael Sherman (guitarist) and Connor Brannigan (bassist and guitarist).

Great news is that Secrets will be coming to South Africa in April 2018 and I’m pretty excited about this. I recently had a chat to the band. This is what they had to say:

First off, the video is wicked cool, but where’s the drummer dudes? Was he sick at the video shoot? Did you lose him when he get distracted by a polka dot kite?

We don’t currently have a drummer. We hire one whenever we head out on tour and Wade has actually been playing drums his whole life so we use him for sessions. As for the video we thought it would just clutter up the video and would have been a pain to move around each room of the small house that we recorded the music video in.

So far, which country has the craziest food?

Netflorist

America. We fry everything and have such diverse food, because we have so many different ethnicities, but we’ve only been to Europe and the UK, which don’t have the craziest food too me. mostly sausage, kebab and pub food.

An Interview with American Post-Hardcore Band Secrets 3

Any chance of melting faces in South Africa? Our food isn’t too crazy, promise

Yes! We can’t wait to get over there. We’ll be headed your way April 12 – 22nd in 2018. We are excited to try some of the local cuisine. We are huge foodies!

You guys get an amazing tone out of the Fender Telecasters, what rig do you guys use? (We have passionate musicians in SA so feel free to go full tech nerd- string gage, pedals, amps, everything).

Mike uses a tele, Richard exclusively uses Kiesel/Carvin guitars and Connor uses a Carvin bass. As for amps we are using Positive Grid Bias racks for guitar and Dark Glass for bass.

Any magical pearls of wisdom for our aspiring musicians in South Africa?

Practice and don’t give up.

Where does the inspiration come from for the positivity in your songs?

We try to write about what’s happening in our lives. We are not always positive in with our writing, but when we are it’s mostly about realizing how shitty a situation is and choosing to be stronger and move past it with a smile.

Please give us all of your links and details so that RWR readers can follow you and your new releases.

I’d like to thank Secrets for this interview and I wish them all of the best. I can’t wait to check them out in April 2018. If you’re not familiar with their music, crank up their song “Incredible” below. The video was released about a month ago.
