Josh Riley and his band Grassy Spark are playing at Park Acoustics this Sunday. This Cape Town based band needs no introduction. They have played at almost every music festival in South Africa and they are constantly making waves in the SA Music scene.
I recently had a chat to Josh about Park Acoustics and a few other things. This is what he had to say:
You recently played a set a Oppikoppi Nomakanjani. Tell us about this and your general experience at this year’s edition of the festival.
Was definitely a jump up from last year, the crowd was on point and despite it being smaller it felt like it had more heart. We were only there for one night, so in general it seemed lekker to us.
The line up we experienced on day two was incredibly diverse, and is a true testament to the progressive vision Oppikoppi are materialising. Despite the theft issue, which is pervasive across SA festivals and music events, we trust that the Oppikoppi team will continue to work towards a safer and secure festival experience. We look forward to returning and hope they invite us back for a good time.
What are you currently working on?
Not giving away any secrets but keywords include ‘brand’ and ‘new’ but most importantly ‘everything’.
What is the most random thing that you’ve ever experienced during a set?
It has to be the time Rence stopped mid-song to tell this dick who was being inappropriate to his girlfriend and telling the ladies with her to ‘fuck off’.
This wasn’t just a simple chys, the brah was being aggressive in the most toxic way, so while it was random, it was also necessary, and we commend him.
Which drink goes down best during your set and why?
Jagermeister – Once you’re already in a tight groove, it helps to get us all loosy goosy. Also its our happy medicine.
Who would win in a celebrity death match between Nicky Minaj and Cardi B and why?
Owen Wilson, because ‘WOW’
What can we expect from Grassy Spark at Park Acoustics this Sunday?
Refer to the second question as well as full power, party flavour, jols upon jols upon jols…
I’d like to thank Josh Riley and Grassy Spark for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their set at Park Acoustics this Sunday and their future musical endeavors.
