Leading Independent record label Just Music have formalised a long term partnership agreement with Cape Town based Sit The Folk Down to develop a new STFD Records label imprint.
In terms of the agreement, the two companies will work closely together on signing and producing artists, with Just Music providing marketing, distribution and other label services for the new STFD label.
Sit The Folk Down made its entry onto the music scene in 2015, with the intention of nurturing and developing authentic local artists and music across the country. This initiative was sparked by eventing live music, mostly at the homes of local fans. In a short space of time, Sit The Folk Down has become a trusted source around the country for live entertainment and music management.
In September 2019 the company expanded its vision by setting up their very own recording studio in Woodstock, Cape Town. The studio has since then been busy recording a dynamic mix of artists, some of which will now be released on the STFD label with Just Music.
Just Music’s core values and passion has always been at the heart of local music and the STFD label deal will further elevate strategic objectives shared by both entities.
Jon Shaban, STFD Director comments
“We’re really excited about launching STFD Records and having Just Music as our partner and the machine powering us, really creates an amazing opportunity for us to identify and invest into some amazing talent that we know exists in this country. Together, we can be excited to grow our artists. That’s something that has always been part of our manifesto with Sit The Folk Down.”
Kevin Ramage, STFD Director comments
“Our tag line has always been about ‘igniting a passion for local music, as well as live music culture’. It’s been an amazing journey over the last few years, seeing this take place through some of the unique events hosted by STFD, as well as the bands and artists we’ve worked with.”
“Something else we’ve always been passionate about is taking some of the amazing talent we’ve found through these events and being able to assist these musicians with their careers. With the launch of the studio last year and now STFD Records in partnership with Just Music, it feels amazing and almost surreal to be in this position, where those ideas and dreams can finally be realized, for us and the musicians alike.”
Just Music CEO, Charles Kühn comments
“Since we started discussing prospects for aligning Sit The Folk Down’s activities with Just Music, I have been immensely impressed by the creative vision and commitment to South African music that both Jon and Kevin share. They have been building a solid brand in Sit The Folk Down and we are excited by the opportunity to expand our footprint in Cape Town.”
“We will now be offering up-scaled recording studios and production services to artists signed to both STFD and Just Music. We will also be working together with new songwriters to be signed to our publishing company. Sit The Folk Down will also expand on its live events, now in association with Just Music and our combined roster of performing artists.”
This is exciting news! I’m curious to find what we’ll see from STFD in the near future.
