Today’s Daily Cool Photo was taken at Oppikoppi 2013 Bewilderbeast in August. On the Friday at the festival +/- 20,000 people were treated by an hour set by Oppikoppi legend Koos Kombuis (who is celebrating 30 years in the SA Music industry this year). His set was one of the best live concerts that I’ve seen in 2013.
Koos Kombuis was joined on stage by Liela Groenewald, Schalk Joubert, Albert Frost, Jaco Van Der Merwe (Bittereinder), Francois Van Coke (Fokofpolisiekar & Van Coke Kartel), Andra, George van der Spuy (Taxi Violence & Goodnight Wembley) and various other famous and up and coming SA musos. I was particularly impressed with Andra’s version of “Lisa Se Klavier” and I have to admit that it was a lot of fun singing along to every song that was performed (even though I was in the media pit, taking photos).
I still remember seeing Koos Kombuis live for the first time in 1996 in Pretoria. I also remember seeing him live at Oppikoppi in 1998, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009. There is no doubt in my mind that SA Music and Afrikaans music would not be the same without him. If you get a chance to see him live, please do, you will NOT be disappointed.
I snapped this photo of Koos Kombuis while he was performing at Oppikoppi 2013 Bewilderbeast, check it out below:
