Guitar virtuoso, Loki Rothman is 24 years old, but he has packed more into his career than most musicians do in a lifetime. He jump started his career when he ended up in top 6 on the first season of SA’s Got Talent. Loki writes music for other artists, runs his own private music school and is well-known as Jack Parow’s brilliant guitarist.
He has mastered many genres on the guitar, has a mesmerizing voice and paints beautiful landscapes with his original lyrics. I was lucky enough to see his solo show at Lentelawaai a few years and I have to say that I was completely blown away by his skill. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was born with an acoustic guitar in his hands.
On Tuesday the 16th June Loki Rothman’s debut album, The Way Back will be released on iTunes. The album is available for pre-order and I’m really looking forward to hear it.
The album is about relationships, love and few lessons he has learned over the past 5 years. It’s got a pop/rock sound to it with a few acoustic and electronic elements to spice it up. “It was such an interesting proses making this album. I got to play around with so many different sounds and each song has its own unique vibe,” say Loki.
He wrote all the music and lyrics on The Way Back and co-produced the album with Justin de Nobrega (producer for Die Antwoord, Jack Parow, Toya Delazy and others). He previously released “Light these Fires”, “Clocks” and “See the Light” as a precursor for the album’s release. Two of these singles charted on radio stations country-wide.
The current single from The Way Back is “Wheel Don’t Turn” and you definitely should give this a listen…
This is such a great tune with catchy lyrics and I wouldn’t be surprised if this song also makes its way into the SA Music charts. Loki Rothman is one of SA’s finest talents and I’m pretty sure that we’ll be hearing some great tunes from him in the future.
You can catch him live at Die Boer in Durbanville on the 17th of June or at Aces ‘n Spades in Cape Town on the 17th of July.
