Great news! South African punk act Made For Broadway’s debut, self-produced offering will be available through Sony Music on iTunes, Spotify and all other major digital distribution services on 19 February 2016.
“Life Lessons”, Made For Broadway’s debut full-length release that combines pop sensibility with punk rock ethos – is exactly what the title suggests: a reflective view of the daily grind, with a twisted perspective… An axe-slinging madman finding love, defiantly yelling “hell naw” in the face of marital bliss, finding comfort in a crashing and burning aeroplane and learning how to cope with having sweeter moves than just about everyone.
This is definitely one of the most anticipated SA albums of 2016, just read what some folks are saying about it below:
“…There is likely to be a lot more demand for the band upon the release of Life Lessons, an effort filled with fast and punchy songs with hooks-a-plenty.” antiMusic.com
“Made For Broadway is the epitome of pop-punk… Life Lessons is … a greatly appreciated kick in the teeth for 2016. Filled with the right amounts of teen angst, and a complementary amount of emotional maturity, the album delivers lyrics and harmonies that will resonate in your head hours after listening to it.” Lalelani.co.za
In case you did not know, Made For Broadway (or MFB for short) is a four-piece mobile pop-punk party that has served the greater Gauteng area since early 2014 with ultra-high energy shows. Characterised by catchy pop melodies and anthemic lyrics, these are what drive the band’s massive appeal when they take the stage – and it shows in the groundswell of support for them from local crowds.
In 2014, the band came out swinging with two EPs and local tours in the first 10 months of their existence – quickly earning favour with local bookers and photographers for their wild stage shows. Not ones to shy away from going big, the band self-produced their debut full-length album and put it on a DIY tour, taking them to California in the USA, performing the songs for the first time ever at the famous Whisky A Go Go, among many other local favourite spots, earning them a standing invitation to play at the Viper Room and several other well-known booking agents.
Returning to perform on the main stage at Oppikoppi Festival 2015, and supporting Tweak on their reunion tour, Made For Broadway only gained momentum, even while taking a brief period to assess themselves after the tour. The band took everything they learned from LA and put it to work – with a growing fan base of over 27000 people across multiple social networks, themselves when the album launches online in February 2016.
Sadly I missed their epic performance at Oppikoppi last year (yes, everyone was talking about them afterwards), but I’m definitely checking them out when I get a chance soon. Check out the official video for their song, “Hit The Road” below:
With a strong focus on gaining international recognition, Made For Broadway constantly work to level-up their live performance and songwriting, and have already begun working on album number two, and follow-up USA tours. Holding a work ethic second to none, the band hopes to surround themselves with like-minded people – management, labels, and sponsors – who share pushing to be bigger and better.
