2019 is in full swing and there are definitely some great movies lined up for this year. To list every single movie that is going to be released this year would be truly impossible task, so I’ve decided to single out a few of them for you.
Here are the 20 most-anticipated movies of 2019
Remember 2000’s Unbreakable? Did you know that director M. Night Shyamalan released a sequel to it in 2016? That film (which featured James McAvoy in the leading role) was called Split and featured an individual with multiple personalities.
Glass is the direct sequel to Split and besides featuring James McAvoy, it will also feature Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson playing their characters from Unbreakable. The film is scheduled to be released on the 18th of January.
2. The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Charlie Day, Alison Brie and Nick Offerman will be reprising their roles from 2014’s The Lego Movie.
It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The film will be released in February 2019.
3. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, and Gerard Butler return for the third and final chapter of the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn’t the only Night Fury, he must seek “The Hidden World”, a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first. The film is scheduled for release in February 2019.
4. Captain Marvel
This film will be the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will feature Brie Larson in the leading role. Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
The film is set in 1995. It’s prequel tale for the following characters: Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, Korath the Pursuer and Ronan the Accuser. Stan Lee reportedly will make a cameo appearance, which he filmed prior to his death in 2018.
Captain Marvel will be the first solo female-led movie in the MCU. This film is scheduled to be released in March 2019.
5. Avengers: Endgame
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in expansion mode since Iron Man was released in 2008. Avengers: Endgame is the direct sequel to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Like many of you reading this article, I’m curious to see how things are going to pan out and I’m not alone… The first official trailer for the movie broke the record for the most views in 24 hours. It reached 289 million views across all sites (YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, etc).
Rumor has it that it will be the most intense and emotional entry in the MCU. It’s the 22nd film in the MCU and definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2019. It’s scheduled for release in April.
Husband and wife Gabe and Adelaide Wilson take their children to their beach house, hoping to spend time with friends. Their serenity soon turns to tension and chaos when a group of “strangers” arrive.
Us is written and directed by Jordan Peele (who brought us 2017’s Get Out). The film will feature performances by Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Moss, Winston Duke, Tim Heidecker, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. The film is scheduled for release in March 2019.
A young elephant, whose oversized ears enable him to fly, helps save a struggling circus, but when the circus plans a new venture, Dumbo and his friends discover dark secrets beneath its shiny veneer.
Tim Burton is directing this live-action remake of the Disney classic and it looks friggin’ amazing. It’s one of the most anticipated kids movies of 2019.
The film will feature performances by Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Danny DeVito and is scheduled for release in March 2019.
8. Pet Sematary
Louis Creed, his wife Rachel and their two children Gage and Ellie move to a rural home where they are welcomed and enlightened about the eerie ‘Pet Sematary’ located near their home.
After the tragedy of their cat being killed by a truck, Louis resorts to burying it in the mysterious pet cemetery, which is definitely not as it seems, as it proves to the Creeds that sometimes, dead is better.
Pet Sematary is an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name and will be released in April 2019. It’s definitely one of the most anticipated horror films of the year.
Did someone ask for a Hellboy reboot? Most of you probably did not, but this film (which is based on Mike Mignola’s graphic novel) looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch.
The film will feature performances by David Harbour, Milla Jovovich and Ian McShane and is scheduled for release in April 2019. In the film, Hellboy is caught between the supernatural and human worlds and battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
You might be asking yourself “Is this a remake of the 1990’s adventure film of the same name?” Nope it’s not. This film is actually an Elton John biopic.
The film will tell the story of Elton John’s life, from his years as a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music through his influential and enduring musical partnership with Bernie Taupin.
Rocketman will feature performances by Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell and is scheduled for release in May 2019.
This film is a live-action retelling of the 1992 Disney film of the same name. It will feature performances by Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Nasim Pedrad and Mena Massoud. Aladin will be released in May 2019.
The film is directed by Guy Ritchie (who needs no introduction). The filmmakers took an extensive casting call to find actors of the right ethnicity for the film, having an Arabian setting. In the end, the cast is comprised of actors of Arab/Middle Eastern/Central Asian/Southern Asian descent.

This sequel will feature the voice talents of Patton Oswald, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes and Harrison Ford.

14. Dark Phoenix
Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

15. Men In Black International
Did someone ask the universe to bring us a fourth Men In Black movie? Maybe someone did, but it definitely wasn’t me. I didn’t really like the third film. Like it or not, this film is scheduled for release in June 2019.
Men In Black International will feature performances by Tessa Thompson, Chris Hemsworth and Liam Neeson. I’m thinking that this won’t be as good as the first 2 Men In Black films, but I might be wrong. Only time will tell if I’m right or wrong though.
16. The Lion King
This is another Disney Live-Action adaptation and it looks like it’s going to be better than Dumbo and Aladin. The film will feature the voice talents of Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones (who will be doing the voice of Mufasa again) and Alfre Woodard.
The 2019 adaptation of The Lion King is scheduled for release in July. It’s directed by Jon Favreau (who directed the 2016 adaptation of The Jungle Book).
17. It: Chapter Two
Twenty-seven years later, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back. This sequel will feature performances by Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader and Bill Skarsgård.
I hope that It: Chapter Two is going to be as good as its 2017 predecessor. This movie is about the adults, but the kids will be making appearances in some flashback scenes. This film is directed by the same director that brought us the 2017 film. It’s scheduled to be released in September 2019.
18. Zombieland 2
I’ve been waiting for this film for a long time. It’s 9 years since the original was released and I hope that this going to kick some serious ass.
Columbus, Tallahasse, Wichita and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family. Zombieland 2 is scheduled for release in October 2019.
