On the 21st of March 2013 (Human Rights Day in South Africa) I made my way to Mark’s Park in Johannesburg to catch the Park Life Music Festival.
It was a fun day packed with awesome local tunes and I think that @Ronitae will agree with me. The food stall selection at the event was pretty awesome and quite reasonably priced (according to Joburg standards). The beer was cold and not too expensive but the organizers could have employed more barmen and done away with the token system they had in place – it got a little bit crazy busy at the bar at times. This was the only hiccup that I had with Park Life, the rest of it was pure awesomeness fueled by brilliant musicians.
On the day I was carried away to a far off place by Nibs van Der Spuy and Guy Buttery, amazed by the brilliance of Josie Field and Laurie Levine on one stage, impressed by the first Plush live performance that I’ve ever seen, had the urge to dance my arse off to the brilliance of Jeremy Loops, had the privilege to carried off to far off places for a second time by Faryll Purkiss and got completely blown away by the awesomeness that is Xavier Rudd. I think that sums up Park Life Johannesburg in one paragraph.
Overall the event was well planned and it looked like Joburgers really came to the party on the day. I really hope Park Life comes to Johannesburg (or Pretoria) next year. I snapped these photos at the event on the day. I think that these 16 photos gives you an idea of the vibe.
