The song “Thetha” by Onset Music Group is a poignant and powerful call to action that addresses the widespread issue of gender-based violence and abuse. At its heart, the track empowers women to find their voice and “speak out loud” against mistreatment.
By using the Xhosa word “Thetha,” meaning “Speak,” the artists highlight the importance of breaking the silence that too often surrounds these issues.
The lyrics not only encourage women to come forward but also challenge men to take responsibility for fostering a safer, more respectful environment. The message is clear—men have a crucial role to play in ending abuse and promoting equality.
The song delivers a direct message: men must stand up for their mothers, sisters, and all women, and unite to end mistreatment.
Through its battle-like metaphor, “Thetha” frames gender-based violence as a societal crisis that demands collective action. This perspective pushes listeners to view the fight against abuse as a shared duty between men and women, working toward a just and equitable society.
With “Thetha,” Onset Music Group opens a necessary conversation—especially with men—about challenging harmful attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate abuse.
By using their platform to raise awareness and inspire change, the artists contribute to a wider movement against gender-based violence, promoting respect, empathy, and solidarity.
