Oppikoppi 2015 is less than 2 months away and excitement is mounting for what promises to be one of the best festival experiences of the year and if the 21st edition isn’t on your bucket list, there might be something wrong with you (but I’ll get into that a little bit later on).
Since my last update a few more acts were added to the Oppikoppi The Fantastic Mr. Vos Vos line-up: Hot Water, The Circle View (USA), The December Streets, Al Bairre, Paul Hanmer, Brand New (USA), GSAND, Trevor Rebello, Lunatic Wolf, Don’t Pet the Elephant, I AM, Nomsa Nomisupasta Mazwai, Original Swimming Party, Mathew Gold and Karen Zoid.
There are two internationals in this batch, so let me tell you a little about them. The Circle View is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois and they’re bringing a “Love Revolution” from the Mid-West to the South African North West. Just have a listen to their track below and you’ll get an idea of what’s coming your way this August. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to see them.
Brand New hail from Long Island, New York and have been around since 2000. They have been labeled as an alternative rock / emo / indie rock / post-hardcore / pop punk band and have released 4 studio albums to date. I’m not familiar with their music, but they’ve got quite a few fans in SA. This is the music video for their song, “Sic Transit Gloria…Glory Fades”.
There are still people bitching about this year’s line-up, but I honestly don’t know what the fuss is about. This year is going to be my 17th Oppikoppi festival and I’ve seen tons of amazing International acts over the years, but that has never been the main focus for me: It’s always been about discovering, experiencing and enjoying the amazing local talent that’s out there, having a jol with my friends and making new friends. Oppikoppi is ultimately about what you make of it.
I’m still wondering who else is going to be confirmed for Oppikoppi 2015 in the coming weeks. Tickets are available @ R750 on the Oppikoppi Facebook Page or via Plankton.Mobi. Make sure that you don’t miss out on this amazing festival.
