Today the organizers (Matchbox Live) finalized the artist line-up for this year’s festival. The line-up is jam-packed with some very talented South African musicians. The focus is completely on local music this year – and that my friends is a very good thing: Oppikoppi is definitely going back to their roots.
Here’s the full list of artists for Oppikoppi 2018:
As far as I know there are only 3 international artists on the Oppikoppi 2018 line-up: Tribute artist Oliver Mtukudzi (from Zimbabwe), Dawn Brothers (from the Netherlands) and Blind Butcher (from Switzerland). I’m pretty sure that there are a bunch of you who are not extremely happy about this, but you know what? Oppikoppi has always been about local music. Deal with it.
The Oppikoppi 2018 line-up is killer. I can’t wait to watch Akkedis, Bad Peter, Bam Bam Brown, Bed on Bricks, Brynn, Cockles, CrashCarBurn, Crimson House, Fokofpolisiekar, Frame Janko, Grassy Spark, Hellcats, Hello Beautiful, Oliver Mtukudzi, Retro Dizzy, Ruby Gill, Satanic Dagga Orgy, Son of Hawk, Southern Wild, Spoegwolf, The Barbosa Experience, The Black Cat Bones and some other great acts do their thing.
I’m also looking forward to tasting the dust, making friends, drinking cold beer and to discover new acts that I’ve never seen or heard of before at Oppikoppi 2018. This will be the 20th time that I make my way to this festival and I’m extremely excited about it.
