This morning, AMP Events proudly confirmed that rock legends Pixies will be touring South Africa in March 2017. It’s the first visit to South Africa and they will be headlining the inaugural Rock on the Lawns music festival on the Festival Lawns at Carnival City and will play under the stars at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town.
Pixies are considered to be one of the most influential alternative rock bands of all time. Their string of anthems include ‘U-Mass’, ‘Gigantic’, ‘Debaser’, ‘Dig for Fire’, ‘Where Is My Mind’, ‘Here Comes Your Man’, ‘Monkey Gone to Heaven’ and more.
They will be supported by Springbok Nude Girls, Prime Circle, aKing, Crash Car Burn, Shortstraw, The Sweet Resistance and The Robfather (DJ) at Carnival City. The Cape Town concert will be a more intimate experience as fans will be enjoying Pixies under the stars at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens supported by Springbok Nude Girls.
Pixies were formed in 1986 in Boston in the USA. The current members of the band are Black Francis (also known as Frank Black), David Lovering, Joey Santiago and Paz Lenchantin. Sadly Kim Deal (who was originally founding member and also a member of The Breeders) left the band in 2013.
Pixies recently released a new album called “Head Carrier”. It’s the band’s sixth studio album and it was produced by Tom Dalgety (who has also worked with Killing Joke and Royal Blood). It was recorded at London’s Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March in 2016.
A special limited edition deluxe box set of “Head Carrier” is available exclusively through the Pixiesmusic.com website. This edition includes the CD, the album on heavy-weight / 180 grams black vinyl and a 24 page booklet with the song lyrics and Vaughan Oliver’s evocative, original artwork. Also available through the band’s website is a special bundle that includes the deluxe box set, special t-shirt and a special 12″ x 12″ record sleeve sized poster.
