A quick chat with Bruce Loko

From his jazzy background in Mpumulanga, the Bruce Loko sound is not your typical South African “house music” producer / DJ. His penchant for atmospheric sounds is packed with souring unabashed emotions and cinematic flourishes.

A quick chat with Bruce Loko 1

Loko’s vision is to make his fans go spiral over his tracks with his extraordinary sound design techniques. Bruce Loko’s career has grown exponentially and after aligning forces with artists such as Ryan Murgatroyd and Aero Manyelo, and erupting with his incredible performance at CTMF, having released on Africa Gets Physical only helped the fire grow.

Bruce Loko will be playing at Grietfest 2017 at the end of August 2017. I had a chat to him about this and a few other things, this is what he had to say:

Where does the DJ name “Bruce Loko” come from?

It’s actually my real name and surname…. Nkosenhle BRUCE LOKOthwayo, haha!

If someone asks you “What kind of electro do you play?”, what do you tell them?

I always tell them I play Electronic music…meaning it could be Techno, Deep House, etc.

What are your thoughts on the current state of SA Electronic Music Scene?

It’s growing gradually, looking at all the young producers / DJs playing at big festivals around the world with their heroes. It shows the the world is recognizing and appreciating our scene.

What can people expect from your set at Grietfest 2017?

    It’s going to be LOKO!

I’d like to thank Bruce Loko for this interview and I wish all of the best with his set at Grietfest 2017 and his future musical endeavors.
