One of Johannesburg’s hottest live acts, The Sextons, bring you their highly anticipated new single entitled “Ego”. Produced by Jacques Du Plessis & Adrian Erasmus from High Seas Studios, Ego is a modern disco track with catchy lyrics and an undeniable hook.
“Ego” is the first single they will be presenting after their successful debut album “Welcome to Forever” which included the singles “Bee Bop”, “Inside”, the live favourite: “I’m Always Here (Baywatch theme)” and their number 1 hit – “A little like you”.
Jamie-Lee founded the Sextons in 2013. This energetic live act brings great music, powerful lyrics and memorable stage presence to all who watch them perform. Having been invited to perform at some of South Africa’s and Africa’s best music festivals including; Oppikoppi, FORR (in Mozambique), Splashy fen, Afriski (in Lesotho) and many others. The Sextons have fast-tracked their way into the hearts of all music lovers.
Jamie-Lee Sexton fronts this enigmatic foursome on vocals, guitar, piano, ukulele and harmonica. She is accompanied by three highly experienced musicians – Mark Van Dijk on drums and percussion, Danny Helsing on bass guitar and backing vocals and our newest member, Steve Greyvenstein on lead guitar. With a fresh and exciting new sound called “Alternative Pop”, The Sextons are bringing the beat back to SA music.
I recently had a chat with Jamie-Lee about the single and a few other things. This is what she had to say:
Where does “The Sextons” name come from?
My name is Jamie-Lee Sexton, and Sexton is my surname. I am from Irish decent and its a popular Irish name , in Ireland of course…
If someone should ask you to describe “Ego”, what would you say?
“Ego” is a modern disco track with a soulful twist. It’s speaks to an element we all possess- The Ego. Often seen as a negative… But this time round we’ve made it fun, light and positive!
What have you been up to lately?
We have been promoting our newest single ( EGO) and we have had a stack on shows that has been keeping us really busy over the last few months. We have also been working on a little music video for this track- look out for it in 2017.
Where can people catch your next live show?
We have just finished our last couple of shows for 2016 and we will be taking a short break to spend time with our families and friends. We are gearing up for an explosive 2017 with new tracks, new shows and good vibes.
I’d like to thank Jamie-Lee and The Sextons for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their future musical endeavors. You can buy the single here on iTunes or here on Google Play Music
