A week ago Big Concerts announced that Roxette are returning to South Africa early 2016 to celebrate 30 years in Music. This four show tour is presented by presented by Kyknet, M-Net, Algoa FM and Bok Radio.
I still remember buying their breakthrough album, “Look Sharp” on cassette when I was the tender age of 11 and I missed them both the times they came here, so this is definitely great news to my musical ears. They played a huge part in shaping me as a person. Call me a poofter or pansy if you want, I really don’t care. I bet you still sing along to songs like “The Look” or “Joyride” if someone with a nostalgic streak queues them up on the jukebox or finds them hidden on your iPod.
Roxette’s XXX – The 30th Anniversary Tour has been celebrated by critics and fans all over the world, and the band has sold out several legendary arenas such as The O2 Arena in London, Olympia in Paris and Olympiahalle in Munich. The ultimate Roxette collection, “Roxette XXX – the 30 biggest hits” is on sale now in support of their tour. Here’s some reviews of their sold concert at the O2 arena in London:
“Marie still hits the big notes that were Roxette’s signature on numbers like ‘It Must Have Been Love’ and ‘Listen to Your Heart’. The crowd, some holding aloft actual ’80s-era lighters, as opposed to backlit mobiles, lapped up ‘Spending My Time’ and went mad for ‘The Look’ and ‘Dressed for Success’.” The Independent
“Roxette landed on the O2 stage with a Crash! Boom! Bang! sending the crowd into a pop frenzy with their greatest hits from the last 30 years. It was a night of nostalgia bursting with energy as the dynamic duo of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson played tracks including ‘Dressed For Success’, ‘Dangerous’, ‘Big L’ and ‘Sleeping in My Car’.” The Daily Mirror
Over four years have passed since Roxette last visited South Africa to perform 10 sold out shows collectively between 2011 and 2012 on the world tour that followed the release of the album “Charm School” in February 2011.
