137 epic photos that document the SA Music Scene in 2012

2012 was a great year for the SA Music Scene. Like 2011, this year was jam-packed with great gigs, concerts and festivals and I attended most of them. Those were the days ek sê.



2012 was the year that I went to my first Up The Creek festival (in the Western Cape). I also went to my third RAMFest (which featured AWOLNATION and In Flames). Both these festivals were one hell of a jol.

SA Music Scene in 2012

Besides this, I also saw KONGOS live twice (at Arcade Empire and Hatfield Carnival) and I went to Oppikoppi Sweet Thing (which featured Bullet for My Valentine, Eagles of Death Metal, Enter Shakari and Seether). And let’s not forget that I saw Uriah Heep at Mieliepop Festival in that year.

2012 was the first year that Vodacom In The City was held at Mary Fitzgerald Square (where I was lucky enough to watch Bloc Party). It was the year that Park Acoustics became more and more popular. 2012 gave us Lentelawaai and plenty of epic shows at Arcade Empire (which included a hectic New Year’s Eve party which featured Civil Twilight).

I also remember watching the whole Vanfokkingtasties Crew (Van Coke Kartel, Fokofpolisiekar, aKING and Die Heuwels Fantasties) for two nights in a row in May 2012 (at Dozi’s Back To The Roots in Harties and at Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria).

I have to admit that the highlight of the year was definitely seeing The Prodigy live for the first time. I will never forget how they got a whole crowd of 8,000 people to sit down completely when they played “Smack My Bitch Up” at Synergy Live in November 2012.

2012 was definitely one of the best years of my life and I’m glad that I documented it with my photography. I’m pretty sure that the slideshow below will hit a nostalgic nerve, so enjoy this trip down memory lane in the SA Music Scene.
