SAMA25: Full List Of Nominees Announced


Last night the SAMA25 nominees were announced at the Alberton Civic Theatre, East of Johannesburg. The SAMA25 ceremony is happening at Sun City in the North West province on the 31st of May and 1st of June 2019.

The SAMAs ‘returned home’ to their cradle for the nominations ceremony. The first edition of the SAMA ceremony was held at the Alberton Civic Theatre in 1994.

The night heavy with sentiment and nostalgia was hosted by the iconic Dosto Noge of Duku Duku fame and child star Hulisani Ravele. The event features some spectacular performances from SAMA Award winning musicians.

Black Coffee received the most SAMA25 nominations

Black Coffee received no less than 5 SAMA 25 nominations last night. The internationally acclaimed DJ’s album Music is King secured him spots in Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Best Dance Album. He also scored a double nomination in the Collaboration of the Year award, first for “Drive” featuring David Guetta and Delilah Montagu and second for “Wish You Were Here” featuring Asanda Lusaseni-Mvana.

Various atists received 4 nominations for SAMA25

Sjava’s received 4 nominations in Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Best Afro Pop Album and Best Engineer. Sho Madjozi receive nominations for Female Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Best Kwaito / Gqom / Amapiano Album and Music Video of the Year.

Zonke received nominations for Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Best R&B / Soul Album and Best Produced Album. Sun-El Musician received nominations for Newcomer of the Year, Best Dance Album and 2 nominations for Collaboration of the Year.

Nasty C scored 3 nominations for Best Hip Hop Album, Best Produced Album and Best Engineer. Vusi Nova also received 3 nominations: For Album of the Year, Best Engineer and Best Afro Pop Album.

The late Oliver Mtukudzi is up for the Rest of Africa Artist award. He is nominated with Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Kommanda Obbs from Lesotho, Mr Eazi from Nigeria and Nixon Zimbabwe.

Expect an epic battle for the Best Hip Hop Album award. AKA (Touch My Blood), Emtee (DIY2), Jabba X (#FGTBB), Kid X (Thank Da King) and Nasty C (Strings and Bling) are the nominees in this category.

SAMA25 sees the return of the Best Reggae Album category

Nominees vying for the trophy are Bongo Riot, Botanist, Ras Vuyo, The Mediators and Black Dillinger are the nominees in the category.

Two reality TV show winners Tholwana ( and Paxton (This is Me) stake their claim for glory in the Best Pop Album as they go up against Majozi, Tresor and Jarrad Ricketts.

You can also expect an epic battle in the Best Rock Album category at SAMA25. CrashCarBurn, Dan Patlansky, Hellcats, The Black Cat Bones and The Parlotones have been nominated in this category for their 2018 albums.
