Halloween 2018: An Interview with Vicky from #SOZLOL

#SOZLOL will be playing some tunes at Halloween 2018 in Pretoria this Friday. I recently had a chat to Vicky Jankiewicz. She is the one half of this top SA DJ-ing act. The other half of this act is Catherine Grenfell. They’ve been making waves in the industry lately.

This is what Vicky had to say in our chat via e-mail:

How did you come up with the name #SOZLOL?

We actually played our first ever show at the Good Luck Bar in 2017 as #jirrejissis BUT when we got booked for Mieliepop Festival, Henk said he can’t book us under that name.

I say #SOZLOL a lot, so I phoned Catherine and told her that our new DJ name is #SOZLOL, Catherine loved it and the rest is history!

So, how did this all start?

We have been chatting about starting to DJ together at festivals, events and private parties since early 2017, but we never got to do it and then when the opportunity arose, we grabbed it with both hands.

You played a few sets at Oppikoppi this year, how was the experience for you and what will you remember about it?

It was the absolute BEST. We had so much fun! Both out sets were very different each night we got to play at the Top Bar, and to have the Top Bar late night slot was a dream come true!

We were really ecstatic about the amazing people who danced their asses off basically, and kept us there until sunrise on both nights. We hope we can do that again.

What do you think the ultimate Halloween costume looks like?

We’re quite excited for Halloween 2018 – we will also be bringing our A-game with some lekker costumes. Anyone who dresses up is a winner, but people who actually dress up and look the part they wanted to, are amazing.

What can we expect from your set at Halloween 2018?

We will be on early to get the party started, so we will be playing some lekker tunes to get everyone excited for the bands.

What are you up to currently and what can we expect from you for the rest of 2018?

We are currently busy applying for festivals and hope to be playing some more soon.

I’d like to thank Vicky and Catherine for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their set at Halloween 2018 and their future endeavors.
