Star Wars vs Star Trek (Infographic)

Today I’m tackling the Star Wars vs Star Trek topic on Running Wolf’s Rant. My mom first introduced me to Star Trek (the original series) when it was on South African television in the 1980’s. I think that triggered my interest into the genre. My Science Fiction obsession went into overdrive when I discovered the Star Wars films later in the 1980’s. Since then I’ve always been a huge fan of Science Fiction.

When it comes to Star Wars vs Star Trek, I’m a huge fan of both franchises. The first 3 Star Trek films are classics but they’re guaranteed to make most people fall asleep. Things have improved since the 4th film though. I must also say that I was thoroughly impressed with the last Star Trek film (directed by JJ Abrams in 2009). The upcoming Star Trek film is also looking like it’s going to be an action packed one, and I don’t intend to miss it. Having seen most of the Star Trek series, I really hope that the creators can come up with a TV series that will give the franchise a boost. There should be a new Star Trek on television, plain and simple.

The three original Star Wars films (released in 1977, 1980 and 1983) will always be three of my favorite films of all time. I’ve probably watched each of them more than 15 times. I’m not a huge fan of the prequels, but I must admit that it was a good reboot for the Star Wars franchise. Pity that the Star Wars franchised has decided to make cartoons instead of Live Action TV shows. Rumours of Star Wars TV series have been around for more than a decade and nothing has been realized yet. I’m also curious about the direction that Disney (the company who bought out Lucasfilm in 2012) is going to do with the three planned Star Wars films.

In conclusion: I really don’t have a side in the whole Star Wars vs Star Trek argument. I like them both and will continue to for many years to come. I’m actually also a huge Battlestar Gallactica, Farscape, Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis fan. Call me a geek if you want to, but I just simply love Science Fiction.

It’s a pity that there are not that many TRUE Science Fiction shows left on television. In recent years Science Fiction TV shows have failed or been cancelled (like Terra Nova, Firefly, Caprica, Stargate Universe, etc). It seems that TV networks are more focused on dumbing down the population with reality TV, if you ask me. The amount of Science Fiction films has also declined. This is sad, because it means that the human race’s imagination isn’t been stimulated enough. No wonder you get some REALLY stupid people out there nowadays.

Someone posted this Infographic on the 9Gag website earlier tonight on the Star Wars vs Star Trek topic and I thought I’d share it with you Science Fiction fans out there.

To be honest, i like both as well. I do however think that there are certain elements that are cool from each. But the war between the Trekkies and the Warsies for the best will carry on..

So you’re saying that “The Wrath of Khan was a boring movie? The best Star Trek movie of all time will put you to sleep? Shut up. You’re an idiot.
