Great news rock fans! The Black Keys will be releasing a new album called “Let’s Rock” on the 28th of June 2019! This will be their first album release in 5 years.
Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney confirmed their return earlier in 2019. Their 2014 release “Turn Blue” wasn’t really like their old material. It’s important to note that they’re going back to their roots with “Let’s Rock”. A while ago they released a track entitled “Lo / Hi” to confirm that.
“Let’s Rock” will be their ninth studio album. The album was recorded in Nashville. According to Rolling Stone there are zero keyboards on the album. Auerbach played most of the guitar solos live. He simply stopped playing rhythm and kicked into lead. Pretty damn impressive. Nuff said.
During recording they came across a Tennessee newspaper story about the state’s first electric-chair execution in 11 years. Guards asked convicted murderer Edmund Zagorski if he had any last words. Edmund replied “Let’s Rock”. That was the inspiration for the upcoming album’s title. The upcoming album’s cover has an electric chair on it.
Today The Black Keys released “Eagle Birds” (another track off the upcoming album). I cranked it up load this morning and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s soooooo good. I can’t wait to hear what the rest of “Let’s Rock” sounds like.
The Black Keys are on my bucket list of bands that I want to see live before I kick the bucket. Let’s hope they make their way to South Africa in the near future to promote their new album.
