I love living in the capital city of South Africa. For those of you outside South Africa, that’s Pretoria. For those of you in South Africa who did not know: You probably failed Geography at school. One of things that makes Pretoria a great city to live in is the fact that we have Tuks FM here. “Why?” Do you ask… well, Tuks FM is the only 24 hour rock radio station in South Africa.
They play 40% local music. If you ask me, Tuks FM is one of the main reasons that SA Music is huge in Pretoria. They were the first station in SA to pick up the debut single off the KONGOS album last year (a song called I’m Only Joking). No wonder both the KONGOS shows in Pretoria (at Park Acoustics and Arcade Empire) sold out in late December 2011 and January 2012.
Besides making love to Pretoria music lover’s ears, Tuks FM is all about providing the Pretoria community with valuable information about happenings in the capital city and staying on top with Breaking News (both local and internationally). They’re definitely doing their bit as a community radio station. If I ever move out of Pretoria Tuks FM will be one of the things that I will definitely miss the most.
Over the weekend, Tuks FM was honored for excellence in radio, receiving 7 Awards in the Campus category at the 2012 MTN Radio Awards. The station won the following awards:
- Campus Station of the Year
- Best Breakfast Presenter (Rob Forbes)
- Best Daytime Presenter (Alex Caige)
- Best News Bulletin Reader (Anton Meijer)
- Best Music Show – The Totally SA Music Show with Waynalicous
- Best Night Time Presenter (Mike Bower)
