Whether running and hiding, or fighting it out is your gaming style, this list covers the zombie games of 2021. Which one will you choose?
Do Or Die – The 3 Best Zombie Games Of 2021
Humanity has had an obsession with the undead for centuries, with everything from charismatic vampires to charming zombies being some of the most popular creations in the last century or two.
Currently, zombies are the best undead friend – or fiend – to take over our films, books, tv shows, along with an endless iterations of games in which zombies are shot at, run from, or players turn into them. It seems the living dead are here to stay for the next long while, and with plenty of time on our hands, here are the best zombie games of 2021.
1. Resident Evil: Village, released 7 May, 2021
One of the most recognised household names around, and with a fabulous franchise to explore, Resident Evil: Village will be the latest iteration to join the long list of zombie apocalypse survival fun. Set just a little after the RE7 events, this game focuses on Ethan Winters who is happily settled down with his wife Mia, before Chris Redfield crashes into his life again and sets him off on a series of events that has him hunting for a remote village set amongst snowy peaks.
Long-time franchise fans will be happy to note that Playlive.co.za game developers have brought back the first-person viewpoint, as it was in RE7, and this time around, the focus is more on the adventure side with plenty of exploration options available, along with the normal combat modes. The game is available for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5.
2. Back 4 Blood, released 22 June 2021
Under development by Turtle Rock Studios, the team who originally did the highly acclaimed Left 4 Dead and multiplayer hit Evolve, this is the closest fans of Left 4 Dead will have to a sequel, since Valve has repeatedly stated they will not be making any more follow-ons. With that said, this game is set to hold everything gamers could possibly want with the nifty local and online co-op features, as well as a repeatable campaign.
Since player vs player options are always popular, the game is said to feature the ability for players to become the monster and set out to attack other players as well. The game is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S as well as Xbox One.
3. Undying, 19 October 2021
With a highly active social profile, and the ability to download a demo version, Undying is a unique zombie survival game in that you play the protagonist, a mother, who has been infected by the undead virus. The main goal for mom is to teach her son all she can, along with find somewhere safe for him to live before she turns.
This gritty game has pleasing graphics, and a host of expected features, such as learning how to find, gather and refine materials to make tools and weapons, as well as find shelter and safely explore the surrounding landscape. What sets this game apart is that the zombie virus isn’t something only to be feared – it has it’s uses since every once in a while, there’ll be a choice to give in to the zombie instincts starting to take over, in order to protect her son.
With plenty of story still to discover just like when you win playing online, and an apocalyptic world to explore, this seems like a great option for those who want more than just a shoot-em-up approach to zombie games. The game is only available for PC at this point in time.
