Ivan Doroschuk from Men Without Hats on stage @ Mieliepop 2013
On the weekend of the 1st of November this year I was at Mieliepop festival in Mpumalanga and enjoying a well-deserved break away from the city. The vibe and people were amazing. I have discussed the whole weekend in detail in previous post on this topic, feel free to read it if you haven’t done so already.
On the Saturday night at the Mieliepop 2013 lovers of good music were treated to an interesting performance by Men Without Hats. The majority of the crowd were transported back to the 1980’s, a time when real pop songs songs like “Safety Dance” and “Pop Goes to the World” were part of the playlist on the radio and it turned out to be one hell of a party.
The best way I can describe it is “synth-pop on steroids”. I must admit that I was pretty impressed by the skills of both the keyboardists in the “band”. I say “band” because the only original founding member of the band that’s left is Ivan Doroschuk. It’s amazing that Men Without Hats (which was founded in 1977 in Montreal, Canada) are still going strong.
I was fortunate enough to be one of the photographers who were allowed to photograph Men Without Hats at Mieliepop festival and I took this close up shot of Ivan Doroschuk during their performance. It has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 11th of November 2013.
Yes folks, after much deliberation and thought I have decided to re-instate the Daily Cool Photo category on Running Wolf’s Rant, so get ready to be blown away by amazing photos by your’s truly and others on a daily basis.
