Great news! Yesterday the trailer for film adaptation of the popular action video game series Assassin’s Creed was released. The trailer had its world premiere on the Jimmy Kimmel show on ABC in the USA and was also released on the show’s YouTube channel.
This 20th Century Fox film will feature performances by Michael Fassbender (who played the role of Magneto in the most recently released X-Men films), Marion Cotillard (who appeared in Anchorman 2 and The Dark Knight Rises), Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons (who needs no introduction) and Brendan Gleeson.
In the film Career criminal Callum Lynch (Michael Fastbender) is rescued from his own execution by Abstergo Industries, the modern-day incarnation of the Templar Order. He is forced to participate in the Animus Project and relive the memories of his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha, an Assassin during the Spanish Inquisition. As Lynch continues to experience Aguilar’s memories, he begins to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to confront the Templar’s age-old enemies of the Assassins in the present day.
Assassin’s Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel (who also directed 2015’s Macbeth) and scheduled for release on the 21st of December 2016 in the US. The South African release date should be around the same time. I’ve not played the video games that much, but judging by the trailer, the film seems to capture the visuals and feel of the games. It actually looks bloody amazing. Check it out below, you will most likely agree with me.
I think I should note that Game Developer Ubisoft gave the prop makers a Bible of every weapon ever made for the games that they could use as a guide. That is probably one reason why this movie might just be awesome.
