Addiction: Live Music. Obsession: Finding Neverland. Muse: Mad Hatter. Drink: Black Label.

Growing up you had to listen to whatever your parents popped into the tape deck, and more often than not you loved it. My folks luckily had great taste in music so I grew up with the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Roxette and Genesis. They weren’t big on SA music at the time so I only got exposed to the South African music scene in my teens, which is unfortunate and brings me to my next point; how could I have missed Dog Detachment? For someone who not only loves the inexplicably pacifying melodies of the 80s but also takes…

It’s a Saturday night in Assembly and we have an awesome line-up ahead of us, but the one name on everyone’s lips: Holiday Murray. The anticipation was high. This lovely pic of the boys (from their music video for ‘Jirey’) reminds me of a scene from Flight of the Concords, probably an unnecessary objective piece of non-information but it just makes me love them even more. James Tuft, Ellis Silverman, Justin Davenport and Chris Carter were absolutely awe-inspiring, as expected. Many fans at the show have never had the privilege of seeing Holiday Murray live, most had only raped their…

This was the first Up the Creek attendance and after a series of unmentionable occurrences, disturbingly funny incidents and mind blowing gigs it’s by no means our last! One of my favourite UTC moments was waking up on Saturday morning and having a fellow camp mate make the following statement ‘Daar het ‘n bergie het in my mond gekak’. LOL. Anyone who has ever attended a festival where you drank too much the previous night and woke up in a sweltering tent will be able to identify with that sensation. Up the Creek is a small-ish festival hosting around 3000 amped fans with ages…

To some of you this isn’t as much an introduction to KONGOS as it is a welcome back greeting. So here we go, welcome back to the SA spotlight KONGOS! The name KONGOS isn’t news for avid @TuksFM1072 junkies. They reached Nr. 9 on the infamous TuksFM top 40 a few years back with their single ‘In The Music’. Today they’re back on the SA circuit with their hit single “I’m only Joking’ blasting from radios countrywide tuned into @5FM. Make no mistake, this song is most certainly going to make it on the charts in no time, if not…

Today I’m introducing you to Two Minute Puzzle… As I write this piece about a band that completely changed my outlook on SA music I had to pour a glass of sensuous merlot and put their EP album on surround sound throughout my house in the hopes of capturing their true essence. Now, you might think I’m over-exaggerating here, but I kid you not, these guys will awaken something within! I only came across the refreshing tunes of Two Minute Puzzle a couple of months ago via @texxonfire who suggested them to one of her mates via Twitter. So Tecla, even…
