Just about all of us will engage in a spot of online shopping today – the ease of buying something as you wait on the train to work is intoxicating.
Then, we have mobile banking. Instead of having to head up to the bank to make a deposit or withdrawal, online banking allows us much more power. You now have the opportunity to easily access mobile money management, dealing with everything from standing orders to fraudulent transactions as you go.
And then we have mobile payments – the ease of which we can pay with items using our smartphones and similar tools. Many stores today will take everything from a direct PayPal link to cryptocurrency: all paid for with a quick flash of your smartphone and simple, easy connectivity.
It’s transformed the way that we do business, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The mobile commerce industry, then, is threefold which helps to explain its exceptional growth.
Why is mobile commerce so big?
One of the main reasons is the ridiculous accessibility of it all. In the past, if you wished to use the internet, you needed an expensive and fully operational PC – you also would need reliable internet connectivity. This would cost hundreds in building or buying a personal computer and then getting it all hooked up to the internet.
This was a huge problem, but today with the internet it’s far less strenuous. A handset and a month-to-month SIM contract with internet access will cost you a fraction of what you would pay for the above.
This is why over half of the world population – 55% in fact – have access to the internet as of April 2019. The scale and ease of which we can get online was changed by the development of the mobile industry.
Instead of being a static and expensive solution to view the world from another angle, the internet – and mobile hardware – changed everything. Now, it would be hard to imagine a world without the ability to be online all the time as we go.
