Many moons ago I interviewed Vittorio Leonardi on Running Wolf’s Rant. It was one of the first interviews I’ve ever done and I was nervous as hell at that time, but I’ve seem to have gotten the hang of it over the years, so I’ve decided to give it another try.
Next weekend, Vittorio Leonardi will be one of the stand-up comedians doing their thang at the last Park Acoustics of 2016 (which is happening on the Saturday nogal). Joey Rasdien, Chris Forrest, Mojack Lehoko, Dillan Oliphant, Mumz, Hannes Brummer, Allyn Adams and Robby Collins will also be there, so if you’re a fan of stand-up comedy, you should not miss out.
I recently had a chat to Vittorio Leonardi about life, love and Park Acoustics. This is what he had to say:
If you could give someone an award for providing you with fresh comedic inspiration on a regular basis, who would that award go to and why?
That would be a toss-up between George Carlin and Lewis Black. Carlin for his amazing command of language and it’s use and Lewis Black because no one else on Earth gets that angry and still manages to be funny. His political observations are always splendid. And considering who the new President of the United States is, I can’t wait to hear the new set.
Speaking about comedic inspiration, have there been any Donald Trump jokes bubbling around in Vittorio Leonardi’s brain lately?
Well, now that you mention it… There’s been a massive amount of noise about why Trump was elected. I can tell you why. He knows his audience.: He openly admitted that he has no issue bribing any political official. He refuses to pay tax. He thinks his daughter is hot. And he likes to grab women by the front-bum. Exactly like most of America’s rednecks. They’re all thinking, “Hell! That boy is speakin’ ma language right thar!”
What do you think of the current state of the SA Comedy Scene?
The biggest issue SA comedy faces right now is whether or not the censorship bill gets passed without edit. Putting comics in jail for 10 years for calling the government the southbound end of a northbound donkey is plain stupid. And it’s shortsighted. Parliament is the number one comedy venue in the country so what’s good for the comics should be good for the twit lawmakers.
What can comedy lovers expect from Vittorio Leonardi’s set at Park Acoustics on the 26th of November?
More of what I’ve said above. It will depend on whether mind-altering substances have separated the audiences’ conscientiousness’ from their physical meat prisons. If both are together, the lateral stuff will come out. If not… Well… dick jokes never hurt anyone.
