Gaming Content: How To Monetize It

Need to monetize your gaming content? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. It’s a fact that if there’s one dream that many gamers share, it’s turning their passion into a career.

The primary way for gamers to achieve that is by monetizing their content. However, not many gamers know how to do this effectively. Many gamers think, “Oh, I’ll just upload a couple of videos to YouTube once in a while, and boom, I’ll be rolling in cash.” Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near that easy.

Monetizing your gaming content takes a lot of hard work, determination, and, most importantly, patience. It’s not going to happen overnight. So, if you think you’re about to quit your day job and jump into gaming professionally, you may want to rethink your decision.

    Gaming Content

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean gaming as a profession isn’t worth pursuing. Monetizing your gaming content and making it a career can be a fun, exciting, and rewarding experience. As the saying goes, if you love your job, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Though the process is long and challenging, it’s doable. In this article, we’ll walk you through the steps you need to take to start working toward starting your gaming career.

First, you need to decide what kind of gamer you want to be

This might sound silly at first. However, it’s crucial to build your fan base. There are several types of gaming content creators out there. Some content creators only play one game, and that’s it. Their fans are there more for the entertainment than the game itself. Others will stream the latest and greatest games on the market, appealing to an audience that’s been waiting months to see someone play that new game. Finally, other content creators will just play whatever they have fun with. Their audience is typically a mix between those there to see the creator and those who want to see the game.

So, you’ll need to decide what type of creator you want to be to build the foundation of your content. In addition, you’ll need the proper setup for your streams. The best lighting for streaming, gaming setup, streaming mic, and quality webcam are all essentials to your success.

Set up a Twitch account for your gaming content

You should make a Twitch account after you have a foundation to work off. Twitch is the main way to monetize your gaming content by becoming a Twitch Affiliate. The Twitch Affiliate program only requires that a user have at least 50 followers, stream seven unique days in 30 days, stream for over 500 minutes in 30 days, and have three average viewers in 30 days.

Once you meet those requirements, you can monetize your Twitch channel. The primary sources of revenue from Twitch are in-stream advertisements, subscribers, and bits. Each Twitch streamer gets a percentage from viewed ads during their streams, subscriber payments, and bits that viewers use to cheer on their favorite streamers. On average, it takes about four months to become an affiliate.

Utilize other platforms for your content

Twitch is excellent, but it shouldn’t be the only platform for your content. Social media and YouTube are the best ways to market your content and monetize it with user-generated content. You may be wondering, “What is user generated content?” Put simply. It’s content advertising a specific brand that the brand itself did not create. Many companies will sponsor content creators to promote their products, such as a gaming mouse or keyboard, which creates an additional revenue stream.

Not to mention, social media platforms have incredible marketing potential with their built-in promotional tools for business pages. Therefore, you should have no trouble getting the word out about your content.

Get out there and start streaming

The only way to monetize your gaming content is to actually start. So, decide what kind of creator you want to be, set up your Twitch, and utilize social media to start making money by gaming.
