BackaBuddy, South Africa’s leading donation-based crowdfunding platform, is spreading holiday cheer with a special festive announcement: 0% platform fees on all crowdfunding campaigns launched between 1–31 December 2024.

A Gift to the Community: No Platform Fees for December

In the spirit of giving, BackaBuddy is offering a gift to its community for December 2024: a chance for campaign creators to raise more funds for their causes, with only third-party payment gateway fees applied.

“At BackaBuddy, we’re continually inspired by the generosity and compassion we see, especially as we approach the festive season,” says Catherine Du Plooy, Director and Chief Growth Officer. “This 0% platform fee initiative is our gift to the community—an opportunity to raise funds with fewer fees and allow donors to have an even greater impact. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to unite and give back this December.”

The Impact of Giving: #GivingTuesday and Over R550 Million Raised

The announcement follows the #GivingTuesday on 3 December, which marks the beginning of the giving season. Whether you’re supporting a local charity, helping someone in need, or funding a personal cause, it’s the perfect time to launch a campaign and make a difference.

“We’ve been moved by the kindness and generosity of South Africans and our global donors throughout 2024. This year alone, nearly R107 million was raised on BackaBuddy, with 118,000 donors supporting more than 24,500 campaigns. Since our launch in 2015, we’ve raised over R550 million in total—showing the true power of community-driven giving.”

“At BackaBuddy, our mission is about more than just fundraising; we aim to empower individuals and communities to come together for causes that matter. This December, we’re excited to inspire even more people to make a meaningful impact.”

Innovation and Integrity: What’s Next for BackaBuddy in 2025

In September 2023, BackaBuddy introduced 0% platform fees for registered non-profit organizations year-round, with only third-party payment gateway fees applying. This initiative is part of BackaBuddy’s continued support for charitable organizations, ensuring that more funds go directly to the causes that need them.

The platform also revamped its website in 2024, enhancing the user experience with new features that make it easier for campaign creators and donors to navigate the platform.

“Our website redesign in March was a key milestone, and we’re excited to keep improving and innovating,” says Zane Groenewald, Marketing & PR Manager at BackaBuddy. “This is just the start, with even more exciting features coming in 2025 to elevate the experience for campaign creators and donors alike.”

A Season of Giving

This December, BackaBuddy invites everyone—whether you’re creating a campaign or donating—to join in the spirit of giving, creating lasting change, and making the season even more meaningful.
