Did you schedule to donate your old furniture and they forgot to pick it up? Maybe they were busy with another urgent project that led to a clashing schedule. Or they honestly forgot about it.
Forgetting stuff is simply human and can happen to the best of us. The question that remains, though, what are you going to do about it? You need furniture removal to make space for new items if you’re not moving altogether and are in a hurry. Fortunately, there are still several ways to get rid of the old pieces in your way.
Give Goodwill another call
The first thing to do is to give Goodwill a call to notify them. Just enquire as to why they didn’t turn up for the removal. If it’s possible, you can attempt to reschedule the collection.
They’re certainly going to apologize a million times over and beg for your forgiveness. Additionally, they will most likely explain to you why your furniture wasn’t collected as scheduled. Maybe they’re able to send someone around right away, and you’ll have it done in no time.
On the other hand, if you have the right vehicle for your items’ transportation, you could also drop off your old furniture at the Goodwill branch nearby yourself.
However, you might feel disappointed that they didn’t come. If people don’t pick up furniture as agreed, it gives you the impression that they weren’t interested. In that case, you should offer your furniture to someone else.
Here’s What to Do When Goodwill Forgot to Pick up Your Furniture
Offer it to a friend
Everyone has got a friend who’d be delighted with some odd furniture. Ask your friends if any of them were interested in one or the other piece you want to let go of. There’s certainly at least one of them who has always mentioned how much he loves the armchair of yours. Should none of them be interested, ask your friends if they know anyone who’d be interested.
Everyone knows someone who would need a new wardrobe, a chest of drawers or a mirror. Maybe one of their children is moving out for university and still needs some bits and pieces? Or perhaps one’s friend just got a divorce and has an empty apartment when he moved out. Knowing someone, you can do a favor for giving you some more satisfaction than offering it to strangers.
List it in the classifieds
If the Goodwill didn’t turn up, there are still many other people who may not be able to afford furniture at all. People who prefer to get their hands on some good secondhand furniture also regularly browse the classifieds. Some of them might want to upcycle your old items, or maybe they know someone who needs it.
It certainly does require some little effort to put up your furniture at respective websites. But how long does it take to take some pictures? You could upload them directly from your phone to the platform you chose for this purpose.
You only have to post the images, add some details, such as measurements or material, and offer them for free. You’ll undoubtedly be rid of it within no time. If you’re lucky, someone can arrange the furniture removal within the next few days or even sooner.
Arrange a garage sale
Well, you were happy just to give away your furniture, but if they didn’t pick it up, you might as well try to sell it for a few bucks. You’ll be able to reduce the amount of your old furniture drastically. And with a little bit of luck, you can sell all of them in one fantastic go.
With the garage sale, you can also put up some other sale pieces you want to let go of. Check your home if there’s anything else you don’t need or that you haven’t used in ages.
However, a garage sale will take a little more time until the removal is complete. You need to advertise for it in your local area about a week ahead.
he best time to choose for a garage sale usually is the first Saturday of the month. People just received their paycheck and have a few bucks more to spare than at the end of the month.
Don’t forget to also advertise about it on social media, such as local groups of your neighborhood. Make sure to clean your furniture for the garage sale so that it does look decent enough to be taken right away.
Schedule a collection with professional furniture removers
If none of those mentioned ideas worked out, or not to your complete satisfaction, you can still arrange for your furniture to be removed by the haulers. It may cost you a small fee, but you can be sure to finally get rid of it. You don’t have to bring it to a dump yourself and let the guys take care of it instead.
Discuss with them whether the furniture removal will begin from where the pieces are currently at. Professional junk removal is usually happy to come into your home or take out the furniture directly from your garage.
If you’re not too keen on anyone coming in, you can put the table at the curb. Be careful though, putting old furniture at the curb is forbidden in some areas.
On the bright side, most removers can pop around on the same day or the next day. That should come in handy if you’re under time pressure and need the furniture removal to happen asap. Another advantage is that most junk removers, such as Jiffy Junk, offer old furniture for donations first.
They know there’s always someone in need, and you don’t have the old furniture sitting around any longer either. It’s then on them to arrange a pick-up with charitable organizations or other people in need. A furniture removal service is probably the best alternative if Goodwill forgot about it.
