In case you did not know Grassy Spark is a unique fusion of Ska-blend with multiple genres, where the end product is pure elation. Their beauty lies in the relevance and authenticity of each live show as they go out of their way to appease and connect with their crowd. Their sound, style and use of genre seeks to connect with a diverse crowd, with the intention of unifying the whole.

More info about Grassy Spark

Grassy Spark have performed at all major festivals in South Africa to date, including Rocking the Daisies, Splashy Fen, Mieliepop and Oppikoppi. October 2015 saw them winning the Vodacom in the City competition where they opened for headline acts The Cat Empire, The Kooks, and Milky Chance for a 10,000 strong crowd at Emmarentia Dam in Johannesburg. They travelled up the East Coast of South Africa in December 2015, ending their tour at Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town as the opening act for a sold out NYE crowd.

Following the signing of a record deal with Gallo Record Company in mid July 2016, their self-recorded debut 11-track album ‘Portal’ was released exclusively to iTunes & Apple music on the 12th August and all other digital and physical platforms subsequently. Their hit single ‘Here I Am’ has seen itself at number 1 on the 5FM ‘SA top 10 at 10 Rock chart’ more than once and still graces the ‘SA Top 30’ on 5FM.

Other songs on the album feature artists such as The Rudimentals, TheCITY, Jeremy Loops, and Nomadic Orchestra. With ‘Portal’ they have taken the accessibility of Ska music to a completely universal level, moving through genres like mother nature moves through its seasons. ‘Portal’ is not just an idea, but a gateway that encapsulates the many facets and emotions of the human experience.

Great news for music fans is that Grassy Spark have released ‘Mona Lisa’ as the next single from their debut album ‘Portal’, along with the Live Performance Music Video for the single filmed at the Parkwood Sessions.

‘Mona Lisa’ features Rudeboboboss from The Rudimentals, and is the follow-up single to ‘Feel It’ which featured fellow Rudimentals band mate Khaos Cotterell. “Mona Lisa sees Grassy Spark and The Rudimentals stand together. Promoting truth, through artistic expression,” explains Grassy Spark front man, Yanick Bathfield.

The single is another banger of a track from Grassy Spark who have fast become one of the most in demand live bands in SA. Grassy Spark’s debut album ‘Portal’ is out now in all music stores and available online for streaming and download here.

Check out the live performance video below:

The video was filmed by Richard Oldfield, Thomas Revington (Shortstraw) and Bradley Grieve. It was recorded by Jacques Du Plessis (Wrestlerish and New Academics) and David Grevler (Wrestlerish) and mastered by Jacob van der Westhuizen.
