Here are 10 Interesting Facts You Might Not Know about Jasper Dan
1. The name of the band comes from a nickname that Jamie Hendry’s (vocals) dad had for having a Jack Daniel’s while listening to 70’s southern rock with Jamie.
2. No one in the band is named Jasper, although many people have called one of the members Jasper at some point.
3. Jasper Dan was recently afforded the prestigious opportunity to be part of the ‘Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Programme’. The Jasper Dan ‘Jack Barrel’ should arrive on South African shores at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
4. Their founding drummer, Paul, and current drummer, Jason Eedes, are related, which they didn’t know until Jason had been with the band for a few months.
5. Barrett Cawood (guitar) has a sun star tattoo which some may consider to be the male version of the ‘tramp stamp’.
6. All band members have full-time day jobs because they can’t afford to be in an ‘expensive’ band like Jasper Dan, stating, “We are a very expensive band with very expensive taste!”
7. They were the first band to play in the famous ‘Lollipop Lounge’ in Johannesburg.
8, Barrett Cawood (guitar) is approximately 70% deaf due to a childhood illness but works all music out by ear.
9. Jamie Hendry (vocals) and Mark Kenyon (bass) went to the same school but didn’t really like each other. They only became close many years later when Jamie asked Mark to audition for Jasper Dan. They are now thick as thieves!
10. The band humorously rates Jason as the “okay-est” drummer in the world and Barrett as ‘the third-best guitarist in the group’.
