Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream officially arrives on Nintendo Switch on the 16th of April 2026, and yes, it’s fully playable on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well!
Whether you’re a long-time fan of the quirky 3DS original or a newcomer looking for a digital getaway, the wait is almost over.

As the island’s caretaker, you’ll be in charge of a tiny floating paradise where the drama is high, the personalities are big, and the surprises never end. Here’s a look at what life on the island has in store for you.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream allows you to Create Your Dream (or Nightmare) Cast of Characters
The heart of the game lies in your Mii characters. You can recreate your best friends, your siblings, or that one weird neighbor, or start from scratch with a completely original creation.
The customization in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has been significantly upgraded:
- Deep Visuals: Beyond standard hairstyles and eyes, you now have access to robust face paint options for truly imaginative looks.
- Distinct Personalities: It’s not just about looks. You’ll define their voice, height, and body type, along with personality traits like quirkiness and energy levels.
- Unique Quirks: You can even gift your Miis specific habits, such as how they eat their food, how they sleep, or signature poses they strike when they’re feeling themselves.
Watch the Drama Unfold in Real-Time
Once your Miis move in, they take on a life of their own. As the caretaker, you’re less of a puppet master and more of a supportive or meddling observer.
At first, your residents are strangers, but by placing them together, you’ll kickstart their social lives. You’ll watch as they forge unlikely friendships, get into heated arguments, and fall in or out of love unexpectedly.
Teaching them custom words and catchphrases adds an extra layer of hilarity as they interact with their neighbors using your own inside jokes.
Design and Expand Your Tropical Paradise
Your island is a blank canvas. As the caretaker, you can place homes, shops, and restaurants to create the ultimate hangout spot.
- The Supermarket: Discover your Miis’ favorite snacks and the ones they can’t stand.
- Renovation Centre: Redesign living spaces to match your Miis’ dreams, whether they want to sleep in a library or a magical fairy forest.
- Island Design Centre: Customize the landscape with trees, benches, and even vending machines to give the island a lived-in feel.
- Photo Studio: Stage the perfect photo op to capture the chaos for posterity.
Get Creative at the Studio Workshop
For those who want a truly bespoke experience, the Studio Workshop allows you to design custom items from scratch. You can sketch out TV shows for your residents to watch, design unique pets, create custom drinks, or even draw the exterior tiles for your island’s buildings. If you can dream it, you can probably build it.
Next-Gen Features and the Nintendo Switch 2
While the game shines on the standard Switch, players moving to the Nintendo Switch 2 will enjoy even smoother hardware performance for a more seamless experience.
Additionally, the new console supports GameChat (available with a Nintendo Switch Online membership), making the social aspect of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream more connected than ever.
