Matt Carstens is one of the artists who will be performing at Park Acoustics this coming weekend. He had incedent with a hammer when he was a kid, but he seems to have grown up fine.
I had a chat to Matt Carstens about Park Acoustics and a few other things via e-mail. This is what he had to say:
When you think of Park Acoustics, what comes to mind?
When I think of park acoustics I just think: Sunshine, music lovers, and a great vibe that never stops. what an awesome platform for musicians and fans alike! It’s always been a goal of mine to one day join one of the legendary Park Acoustics lineups, and now I finally get to live out that dream. I’m so excited!
What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to Matt Carstens during a live set?
When I was just starting out and playing one of my first shows, I was playing quite a late set at some beer fest and one of the audience members (who had had quite a rough night by the looks of it) actually fell asleep right in front of the stage. I suppose I could have taken it badly, but the sight of this comatose person was priceless. I mean.. we’ve all been there at some point haha. was a pretty good show, to be honest.
What is the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you during a live set?
I was playing a show in Stellenbosch at one of my favorite venues, and then midway through my set this guy in the front row of the crowd threw a cigarette onstage. Naturally, I picked it up, because of fire hazards and whatnot, and as I did so the same dude insisted at full volume that I should eat the cigarette. Instead I just took a puff and put it out because I had had quite a big lunch before the show.
What are your thoughts on the current state of SA Music?
I think there are loads of amazing acts and bands popping up in SA all the time. My honest opinion is that Mzansi will one day take over the world-wide scene. We’ve always been a beautiful country with beautiful music. It’s only a matter of time.
What can we expect from Matt Carstens at Park Acoustics?
I’m going to bring my loop pedal and have a great time, and, of course, do my best to make sure everybody who comes out to support has one too. Because ultimately that’s what we’re there to do. To have a great time and watch some local music with like-minded people. It’s going to be beautiful.
I would like to thank Matt Carstens for this interview and I wish him all of the best with his set on Sunday. If you don’t have Park Acoustics tickets yet, get them HERE.
