Pluribus is a critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic science fiction series created by Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Premiering on Apple TV+ in November 2025, the show stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, a cynical author who becomes one of the few humans immune to an alien virus that unites the rest of humanity into a blissful, peaceful hive mind.

Described as “the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness,” Pluribus blends noir, psychological thriller, and existential drama, exploring themes of individuality, forced utopia, and human consciousness in a genre-bending narrative that has drawn comparisons to The Twilight Zone, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Apple TV+’s own Severance.

Pluribus

Here are 15 Interesting Facts about Pluribus

1. The series title Pluribus (stylized as PLUR1BUS) is a direct reference to the U.S. motto “E pluribus unum” (“out of many, one”), symbolizing the hive mind’s unification of humanity.

2. It premiered on Apple TV+ on November 7, 2025, with the first two episodes dropping simultaneously, followed by weekly releases on Fridays.

3. Vince Gilligan created, wrote, and directed multiple episodes, marking his return to science fiction since his days writing for The X-Files.

4. Rhea Seehorn leads as Carol Sturka, a reluctant and deeply unhappy protagonist whose misery makes her uniquely resistant to the alien influence.

5. The premise involves an alien RNA sequence transmitted from the exoplanet Kepler-22b, turning most of humanity into contented “Joined” or “Others” in a collective hive mind.

6. Only a small number of immune individuals remain (initially around 12–13), with Carol tasked with resisting assimilation while uncovering the hive mind’s true intentions.

7, The show is primarily set and filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, reusing some infrastructure from Gilligan’s previous series but deliberately avoiding iconic Breaking Bad locations.

8. To film Carol’s neighborhood, the production built an entire fake cul-de-sac in West Mesa, including multiple homes and a park, to prevent real-world tourism issues.

9. Pluribus has been hailed for its deliberate, slow-burn pacing, striking cinematography, and themes that some critics interpret as allegories for artificial intelligence and collective thinking.

10. It holds a 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise focused on its originality, Seehorn’s powerhouse performance, and Gilligan’s controlled, confident direction.

11. Apple TV+ announced Pluribus as its most-watched series ever, surpassing hits like Ted Lasso and Severance, shortly before the Season 1 finale.

12. A second season was renewed almost immediately after premiere (Apple originally ordered two seasons upfront), with Gilligan hinting at potential for more if Seehorn is willing.

13. Each episode reportedly cost around $15 million to produce, reflecting its premium production values and ambitious scale.

14. The series draws inspiration from classic sci-fi like The Twilight Zone and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, while echoing Gilligan’s The X-Files roots in paranoia and moral unease.

15. The Season 1 finale, originally scheduled near Christmas, was moved earlier (around December 23–24, 2025) to avoid holiday clashes, to the delight of fans desperate for answers.
