Solomon John Returns With “Get Out Of My Head”

South African singer-songwriter Solomon John is proving once again why he is a force to be reckoned with in the local indie-alt scene. Following a year of bold sonic experimentation, the Durban-born artist has released his latest single, “Get Out Of My Head,” a track that dives deep into the messy, relatable reality of toxic love.

The Inspiration: Turning Heartbreak into Anthems

Every great song starts with a spark of truth. For Solomon, “Get Out Of My Head” was born from the ashes of an ill-fated relationship. It captures that universal, agonizing moment when you realize you have to walk away from someone, even when your heart isn’t ready to let go.

Solomon John shares that he specifically wanted to capture the frustration of a toxic relationship. He believes that everyone can relate to a tough situation where you had to leave even though you didn’t want to.

To bring this emotional weight to life, Solomon collaborated with GRAAFF studios. The production features intricate guitar work that serves as the track’s backbone, providing a gritty, melodic landscape that mirrors the tension of the lyrics. Solomon credits the studio’s specific guitar skills for really helping bring the track to life.

From Durban Roots to Johannesburg Stages

Solomon John’s musical identity is deeply rooted in his upbringing on the East Coast of Durban. Raised on a diet of church choir performances and musical family gatherings, he learned early on that music is the ultimate connector.

Growing up, music meant togetherness for Solomon, and he maintains that different genres still have the power to bring different people together today.

While he started with vocals, Solomon quickly mastered the guitar and bass. His live gig scene started as a musician in multiple cover bands, where he cut his teeth on the timeless catalogs of The Beatles, Santana, and Bon Jovi.

However, it was a move to Johannesburg in his early twenties that truly expanded his horizons. The shift from the coast to the highveld exposed him to the raw energy of the city’s rock, alt, and punk scenes – elements that are clearly audible in his modern discography.

A Growing Legacy of Genre-Bending Hits

“Get Out Of My Head” is the latest chapter in a prolific journey that began in 2022. Since his debut, Solomon has refused to be pigeonholed into a single sound:

  • “How Did We” (2022): His debut radio single that introduced his soulful songwriting.
  • “Hey Girl”: A playful, Reggae-inspired pivot.
  • “Home” & “First Class Geek”: Singles that solidified his presence on the airwaves.
  • “Uzzi” (2025): A post-punk, alt-rock experiment that signaled a shift toward a moodier, more textured sound.

What’s Next for Solomon John?

If “Get Out Of My Head” is any indication, Solomon John is just getting started. Fans can look forward to a full-length album on the horizon – a project promised to be filled with smooth rhymes and genre-bending vibes designed for listeners to truly vibe to.

Whether you’re a fan of alt-rock, indie-pop, or just a good old-fashioned heartbreak anthem, Solomon John is an artist you need on your radar this year.
