South African singer-songwriter and storyteller Pilani Bubu has released her inspiring new single, “Caged Heart”. Born from a poem written on a sleepless night, the track is a powerful anthem about backing yourself, finding the courage to keep going, and finally doing the things you have been putting off.
The story of “Caged Heart” actually begins in 2014. Three years after leaving corporate life to pursue her passions, Pilani found herself back working in an agency.

Late one night, unable to sleep, she penned a poem as a vital reminder to keep believing in the creative path she had chosen. At the time, it served as an affirmation to defy her own limitations.
Back then, she had only released one album and had not yet introduced fans to Warrior of Light or her acclaimed Folklore album series. Twelve years later, with her eighth studio album on the way, those late-night affirmations have transitioned from a hopeful promise into a beautiful lived experience.
Defying Limitations and Chasing Dreams
Following the July release of “Doodle Do – Diminished Light”, her latest offering carries that same encouragement forward. Pilani hopes “Caged Heart” will reach anyone holding back on something that matters to them, urging listeners to break through their own ceilings and challenge self-limiting beliefs.
The track asks a crucial question: what kind of life do you want to live, and what is stopping you from taking the leap?
She encourages fans to ask themselves what they would wish they had done if today were their last day, reminding them that even after choosing a path, it requires constant courage to keep growing and defying gravity.
