The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has officially announced that the 32nd edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) will return to its traditional “home” in the North West Province on 15 August 2026.
Widely recognized as the “Platinum Province” and the long-standing spiritual home of the awards, the North West has hosted many of the ceremony’s most iconic and transformative moments over the decades.
This highly anticipated return is being celebrated by the industry as a deeply emotional and historic occasion, serving as a powerful tribute to musical legacy, creative excellence, and collective national pride.
The official announcement was made on 27 May 2026 by the North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi. During the address, the MEC expressed her palpable excitement regarding the return of the nation’s premier music celebration to the region.
“It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West. This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation,” declared an elated MEC Tlhapi.
She further emphasized that the return of the SAMAs represents far more than just a single night of entertainment; it signifies a renewed, vibrant celebration of the province’s inherent cultural energy, legendary hospitality, and robust creative infrastructure.
