London-based alternative progressive rock band Temples on Mars are back with their most ambitious and refined release to date – a full-length album that showcases the evolution of their sound.
Building on their self-titled debut and the darker, electronic-driven Parallels V.1, this latest effort finds the band at their creative peak, exploring new textures while staying true to their identity.
Recorded between studios in London and Los Angeles, the new album features ten tracks that strike a balance between heavy riffs, atmospheric electronics, and melodic hooks.
“We’re always creating, so there wasn’t a single lightbulb moment,” explains frontman James Donaldson. “This album just happens to be the ten tracks that felt the most cohesive and represented a real step up from our last record.”
Collaboration and Craftsmanship
Several songs feature Josh Freese (Foo Fighters, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails) on drums, adding extra punch and precision to the record’s sound. Production was a team effort — handled by Darren Carikas and James Donaldson, with Paul Matthews co-producing and engineering the vocals, and mastering legend Ted Jensen (Sterling Sound, Nashville) ensuring the final polish.
Exploring Awareness and Reflection
Lyrically, the album delves into themes of awareness, mortality, and self-reflection. “Be aware of what’s going on around you – at all levels,” the band urges. “Open your eyes, ask questions, appreciate the moment, and live.” This thoughtful approach ties together the album’s intensity and emotional weight, offering depth behind every soaring chorus and crushing riff.
Standout Tracks Making Waves
Songs like “Sleepwalking into Extinction” and “Daydreamer” have already made an impact, both breaking into the Radioscope Top 40 Rock Charts in Donaldson’s native New Zealand. The third single, “Smile,” adds a darker tone, highlighting the album’s introspective core. Each track feels deliberate and distinct, shaped by the band’s decision to tune lower and dive deeper into electronic textures.

Temples on Mars are no strangers to the stage, having performed at major festivals like Download UK, Radar Festival, Euroblast, and Planet Rock Winter’s End, as well as headlining a tour in South Africa. This latest release captures a band still pushing forward – heavier, sharper, and more purposeful than ever before.
