    Zalando Has Tech Advantage in Online Fashion

    Zalando’s AI-Powered Product Recommendations

    Zalando uses AI to analyze customer behaviour – purchase frequency, browsing histories, purchase types, preferred product sub-types and brands, etc – to give accurate product recommendations. This helps customers save time and streamline their shopping process

    Furthermore, the online retailer uses this data to identify areas for improvement across their websites and applications. This could include optimizing their search bar, making the checkout processes smoother, better recognize the factors based on which search results are ranked,

    Zalando has likely implemented Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems into its website and application. Unlike simple chatbots with limited responses, NLP allows chatbots to understand the nuances of human language and respond accordingly.

    For them, this is especially vital. They need to understand exactly what type of shoe their customer is looking to purchase. Based on collected data, their backend could then trigger notifications highlighting merchant discounts and new arrivals.

    This level of personalization helps the online retailer to keep customers engaged and feeling valued, potentially leading to more purchases.

    Augmented Reality Integration

    Online shopping has its risks: “What if these shoes don’t look good on me?” or “What if this dress doesn’t fit me the way I want it to?” To counter the valuable concerns of its customer base, Zalando Online has released a new application called “Try On” on Snapchat.

    To use the feature, the users take a full-body photo and upload it to the app. They can choose a garment from the available options, which the application blends into the photo.

    The blending process removes any overlapping clothing and nigh perfectly recognizes contours. This way, customers can virtually try on products and choose the one that fits just right.
