Three weeks have passed since I made the “great trek” to Oppikoppi 2014 Odyssey, but the memories of it are still etched into my brain. It was an awesome festival with awesome vibes and some really awesome musical acts and I’m definitely one of the 20,000+ humans who really enjoyed the event.
Last week I showcased photos of all the local acts that I photographed this year, so today it’s the time for photos of the 3 main headliners: Editors (from the UK), Rival Sons (from the USA) and Wolfmother (from Australia).
Here’s my 2 cents on the Editors, Rival Sons & Wolfmother at Oppikoppi
Editors attracted a huge crowd at the Wesley’s Dome Stage this year and I have to say that I was completely caught by surprise by these UK post punk / indie gods. A few minutes into their set (which lasted about an hour) I soon realized that I actually knew a lot more of their songs that I thought (thanks to the extensive airplay they’ve received on radio stations like Tuks FM and the Grind Radio). Tom Smith, Russell Leetch, Edward Lay, Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams put on a great performance that will go down as one of the best live sets that has been seen at Oppikoppi. Here are some photos that I took during their set.
Rival Sons played their set at the James Phillips Main Stage and put on an amazing show. This American Rock act from Long Beach, California rekindled the Oppikoppi faithful’s love for old school music. Front man Jay Buchanan was EVERYTHING a front man of a rock band should be and did not disappoint with his amazing vocals. Rival Sons’ riffs will forever be etched into my ears and they’ve turned me (and the majority of the Oppikoppi crowd who watched their show) into a bigger fan of their music. Here are some photos that I took during their set.
Wolfmother were the last act to perfect on Saturday night at the Wesley’s Dome Stage. This Aussie rock trio had the crowd rocking out to the max from the second they stepped on stage. Before they played “Woman”, a girl took off her top in front of the stage (which earned a copy of the band’s set list) and they 20,000 strong crowd went completely ape shit when they played “Joker and the Thief”. Pretty fucking amazing if you ask me. Here are a few photos that I took of Andrew Stockdale and the boys of Wolfmother.
Kudos to Hilltop Live and everyone else who was involved in the organization of Oppikoppi 2014 Odyssey. These 3 international acts were totally awesome and I am looking forward to see what the organizers have up their sleeves for next year’s festival.
