Mzansi thrill-seekers have exciting news as the world’s longest zipline has officially opened near Caledon in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.

On 23 September, K3 SA Forest Adventures launched a 3.2 km zipline that descends from a height of 500 meters in the Caledon Mountains, reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h

This new zipline now holds the record for the longest in the world, surpassing the 2.8 km Jebel Jais Flight in Dubai.

Western Cape’s Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Ivan Meyer, expressed pride in the accomplishment, stating, “I am thrilled that we now host the world’s longest zipline, a national and continental asset that will significantly boost tourism in our province.”

World's Longest Zipline - Overberg, Caledon

Located just an hour from Cape Town, off the N2 highway near Caledon, this is the seventh zipline project developed and opened by SA Forest Adventures. Visitors and participants have hailed it as an unmissable adventure.

“It was absolutely amazing—the views were spectacular. Don’t miss out!” said Clinton Lerm from SA Forest Adventures to eNCA.

At “Base Camp,” guides handle the check-in process and provide instructions on safety guidelines. The ascent to the 7 km mountain trail can be made either in the Big Red—a custom-built 20-seater luxury trailer—or in smaller 4×4 vehicles.

“The trail offers an incredible escape into a unique fynbos kingdom, home to wildlife such as various antelope, lizards, and a rich bird population,” SA Forest Adventures commented. “The mountain is also the only known habitat of the critically endangered rough moss frog, but as you climb higher on the single-track trail, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Overberg.”

Once at the summit, a brief but steep hike leads to “The Nest,” an intimate departure platform. After safety checks, riders are clipped into the cable for the 3.2 km descent, with speeds reaching up to 120 km/h based on weight. The ground quickly drops away, leaving you soaring 500 meters above the landscape.

This adventure is exclusive, with limited capacity to ensure a personalized experience.

Ricardo Mackenzie, Western Cape Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, who attended the launch, described the experience as “beyond incredible.” He added, “The Western Cape is all about celebrating outdoor sports and adventures, and this thrilling zipline is a perfect addition to our province’s many attractions.”
